the is a definit article it refers to a particula thing e.g:let's read the book
a-an are indefinit articles they are used in general sense e.g: let's read a book.I saw an elephant.an is used before nouns that begin with a vowel sound.
a- an are used only with singular noubs
the is used with ploral and singular nouns
