13. December – Advent Calendar

Christmas Traditions in English Speaking Countries

Christmas in Ireland

The Christmas traditions in Ireland are not much different from the ones in Great Britain. On Christmas Eve, many Irish families put a candle in the window. It’s a symbol of welcome for Mary and Joseph, who were looking for shelter that night.

All decorations are traditionally taken down on 6 January – it is considered to be bad luck to take them down beforehand.
