Christmas Traditions in English Speaking Countries>
Carol singing
Carol singing is a very old tradition in Great Britain. In the pre-Christmas period, children and grown ups go from house to house to delight others with their Christmas songs. Some of the carol singers are even dressed in costumes from the 19th century – the time when lots of Christmas traditions started.
In medieval times, ‘carols’ were some kind of dances to which people sang. The meaning of the word has changed, however. Today ‘carol’ just means ‘Christmas song’.
