20. December – Advent Calendar

Christmas Traditions in English Speaking Countries

New Year’s Eve in Great Britain

On New Year’s Eve, there are great parties everywhere. People meet in squares, pubs or at their friends’ parties. Just before midnight, everyone counts down the seconds to the new year. At 12 o’clock, people hug each other, wish each other a ‘Happy New Year’ and sing “Auld Lang Syne”.

By the way, in most English speaking countries private fireworks are not common (often not even allowed) on New Year’s Eve.
