Exercise The Gingerbread Man – Part 1

Fill the gaps with the correct tenses.

  1. Once upon a time there (be) a little old man and a little old woman, and they (live) all alone in a little old house.
  2. They (feel) quite lonely because they (have) no children.
  3. So one day, the little old woman (make) a little boy out of gingerbread.
  4. When the little old woman (decorate) her gingerbread boy, she (put) him in the oven.
  5. Some time later the little old woman (open) the oven door to (take) her little gingerbread boy out again.
  6. But he just (jump) out of the oven and (run) away.
  7. The little old man and the little old woman (run) after him to (catch) their little gingerbread boy.
  8. But the gingerbread boy (be) faster than the little old man and the little old woman.
  9. He (laugh) and (shout) , » (Run) as fast as you (can) . You (catch/not) me. I (be) the gingerbread man.«
  10. And they (can/not) catch him.
