Guide on using ego4u

Exercises

In general, there are two different types of exercises on ego4u: multiple choice and gap filling exercises. Note that there is just an underline for gap filling exercises (not a box). Just click on the underline to type in your answer. (The first sentence in an exercise is usually given as an example.)

There are three ways to check your answers:

  • mark wrong answers - All your answers are checked. Correct answers are green. In wrong answers, the underline becomes red.
  • Replace wrong by correct answers - All your answers are checked. Correct answers are green, wrong answers are replaced by correct ones that will, however, be coloured in brown.
  • Show all correct answers - All fields are checked. Correct answers are green. Wrong answers and fields without an answer are replaced by correct answers that will, however, be coloured in brown.

If after choosing "mark wrong answers" a red exclamation mark (!) is shown, move the mouse pointer over the mark to see the notice.

You will have made one of the following mistakes:

  • made a mistake in capitalization
  • used a wrong punctuation mark or at least one too many/few
  • used a wrong key to type the apostrophe

If a yellow "i" (i) is shown with an answer, move the mouse pointer over it to see additional information (reasons and tips on the correct answer). (You might find the infoboxes as well in other areas, e.g. explanations or texts)

If an answer is brown, you can move the mouse pointer over it to see your wrong answer. (It might take one/two seconds before the box appears.)
